Western Flyer to visit Old Fisherman's Wharf
Event Date:Sep 21 - Sep 24, 2026 at 3:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location:
The legendary Western Flyer will be on site for some great photo opportunities at the California Dock next to Rockfish Harbor Grill (on the left) beginning Monday mid-afternoon, September 21st, and will depart on Thursday, September 24th mid-afternoon (weather permitting). The Western Flyer has a special connection to Monterey’s history: in 1940, John Steinbeck and his close friend, marine biologist Ed Ricketts, chartered the boat for their famous expedition to the Sea of Cortez, a journey later chronicled in Steinbeck’s The Log from the Sea of Cortez. Steinbeck and Ricketts were both closely connected to Monterey’s waterfront and the fishing and cannery community that shaped so much of the area’s history. Today, seeing the restored Western Flyer at Old Fisherman’s Wharf offers a wonderful glimpse into that remarkable chapter of Monterey’s maritime and literary past. Be sure to stop by and see her while she’s here! (PC: Western Flyer Homecoming event in 2023 at the Wharf - Jess Soriano)
