The Inside History of Fisherman’s Wharf—Luncheon Presentation on May 23, 2019

 

Mary Alice Cerrito Fettis has deep family and professional ties to Fisherman’s Wharf.  She was born and raised in Monterey in a prominent local Italian family that pioneered in the restaurant industry. With her sister, Gloria Brown, she managed Cerrito’s Neptune Table Restaurant on Monterey’s Old Fisherman’s Wharf, including the restaurant, banquet facilities and entertainment businesses. For several years, she served as the President of Monterey’s Old Fisherman’s Wharf Association and currently serves on its board.

 

Drawing on this rich experience, Mary Alice is uniquely qualified to make a chronicle the evolution of Fisherman’s Wharf.  The Cal Alumni Club is hosting the event on May 23 at Scales Restaurant on Fisherman’s Wharf, and the public is invited to join.

 

Ms. Fettis has helped to bring more world recognition to the Wharf. She works with the City of Monterey, State of California, Harbor Master, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, many of the research institutes of Monterey Bay, and 36 merchants on the Wharf. She has overseen several important events on the Wharf including reinstating the annual world-class event, “Whalefest Monterey”, which empowers and inspires the public to preserve and protect our oceans.  She has been involved in many other wharf events including “Art on the Wharf, “All Things Italian”, “Japanese Heritage Days”, Wharf Birthday, Christmas on the Wharf.

 

Ms. Fettis also served as the President of the Monterey Hotel & Restaurant Association (precursor to the Monterey County Hospitality Association.   Due to her love of local history, she served on the Board of Directors of the Monterey History & Art Association. She chaired La Merienda Committee and continues as mentor.

 

A buffet lunch including mixed greens, grilled salmon, pasta primavera, sauteed vegetables, and key lime bite for dessert will be served.  Those who wish to attend should send a check in the amount of $40 per person (tax and tip included) to payable to Cal Alumni Club c/o Lou Langley, P.O.
